President Rodrigo Duterte vows that he would soon expose the truth about the chief executive officer of online news website Rappler and his staunch critic Maria Ressa of being a “fraud” threatening that she would someday get a taste of her own medicine.

"Si Ressa is a fraud, maniwala kayo. Give us time. Too early for you to enjoy ‘yung mga award-award mo," he said.

In a public address aired on state-run PTV-4, Duterte said he had been receiving folders of information and would expose Ressa someday.

"I have some folders in me given all throughout the years. You will have a dose of your own medicine one of these days,"

"We are just compiling at this stage. And someday in bold letters, we will show your incongruity. You are a fraud"

Duterte also said that his Cabinet secretaries are being accused of corruption while they are busy with their duties in the COVID-19 fight.

"General Galvez, General Lorenzana, General Ano, they have served the country and they are still serving the country. Why would they destroy their name?" Duterte said.

"'Yung madudumi ang isip, pag sabi na may price difference eh tingnan mo muna yung history," he added.

"If you judge us the way... then one of these days we will also judge you in the same way and with more ferocity. And it will come... tayong mga politko, it will come just be careful,"

Last June, the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46 convicted Ressa and former Rappler researcher-writer Reynaldo Santos Jr. of cyber libel. The court ruling against Ressa and Santos was based on the 2017 cyber libel complaint lodged by businessman Wilfredo Keng.

Opposition groups, human rights advocates and critics have claimed that Ressa’s conviction is a blow press freedom in the country.
